State Inspector General investigating SIU hires

SIU President Randy Dunn says the Illinois Office of the Executive Inspector General is now looking into the hiring of two members of Chancellor Carlo Montemagno’s family.
According to a statement from Dunn, the issue was first directed to the SIU System of Internal Audit, Compliance, and Ethics. They referred the Illinois Inspector General.
The knowledge of the potentially troublesome hiring’s were first reported by the Daily Egyptian, SIU’s student ran newspaper.
In a separate statement, Montamagno says he welcomes a review of faculty hiring at SIU, that he had no role and will have no future role in the hiring or supervising of the employees in question, and that it’s his understanding that the hiring’s were done in compliance with SIU policy.
Dunn says there is no timetable for the results of the inquiry.
