Illinois joins efforts to stop citizenship question on 2020 census

Attorney General Lisa Madigan has joined a coalition of over a dozen other state attorney generals in urging the US Department Commerce to not add a question about citizenship to the 2020 census.
They say it could lower participation among immigrants and cause a population under count.
An under count could potentially threaten states representation in Congress and the Electoral College, and cost them billions of dollars in federal funding.
