Pulaski County man sentenced for aggravated discharge of a firearm

Devante Taylor

A Pulaski County man has been sentenced to eight years in state prison after he fired a gun during an apparent argument over a parking space in Carbondale.
According to a press release from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, in May of last year, Carbondale Police responded to a party in the 300 block of South Crestview Lane after a report of shots fired.
Witnesses at the scene told police that when 25-year-old Devonte Taylor was asked to move his car, an argument ensued. The witnesses said after some heated words were exchanged, Taylor drove his car down the street, opened the hood, and retrieved a pistol. He then began shooting into the air and then into the group of people. No one was injured, but one shot did strike a home.
Taylor’s vehicle was later spotted by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department. After searching the car, police found the pistol under.
He was convicted on the felony charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
