Team of the Week 2018 Week 4: Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats

The Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats were selected as the 103.5 ESPN Southern Illinois Healthcare Team of the Week in Week 4 of the high school season this year after defeating undefeated Nashville 37-14.
That was a big win for the Wildcats, who got back to .500 after starting the season out 0-2.
“We’re playing a little bit better, we’re taking care of the football,” Head Coach Brett Detering said. “We missed some opportunities in the first two weeks, turning the ball over.  When you’re playing good teams – and West Frankfort and Murphysboro are two really good teams – you can’t make those kinds of mistakes.
The Wildcats now turn their attention to Carterville, where they travel to this Friday.
“They always seem to have great speed on their team, so that’s always an issue,” Detering says of Carterville. “We have to be able to play with great leverage, try to play with great alignment so we can maybe negate their speed… Whether or not we’re bigger than them I’m don’t know if that’ll be true.  You hope if they’re the quicker team, we’re the bigger team so they don’t have both those things working in their favor.”
The Wildcats and Lions kickoff on Friday in Carterville at 7pm and can be heard on our sister station, Newsradio WJPF 1340 AM!
