Phil Oskilanec Bio



  • Grew up in Flossmoor and attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School
  • Graduated from Southern Illinois University, majored in Radio/Television and minored in Marketing.

 

CAREER BACKGROUND:

·        I got my start as a junior at H-FHigh School. I played two years of basketball but after I didn’t make the team, I wanted to remain around my friends and the game so I began broadcasting.

·        Broadcasted from the UnitedCenter and PeoriaCivicCenter during the 2004 IHSA basketball playoffs.

·        Worked part time at WBBM News Radio 780 writing news and editing audio

·        Worked at WSIU and WIDB (University student radio station) throughout 4 years at SIU.

·        Broadcasted 2006 MVC tournament for MVC.ORG radio

·        Broadcasted Saluki Football and Basketball games including 2007 MVC Tournament in St Louis

·        As a Senior, I began working on the Saluki Football and Basketball broadcast as a scoreboard update anchor for pre, half and post games. I also wrote and produced halftime feature stories for each game.

 

UNIQUE EXPERIENCES:

  • Got a chance to meet and interview members of the College Gameday crew for ESPN when they visited Carbondale.
  • Interviewed New York Giants running back and former Saluki Brandon Jacobs
  • Attended game 2 of the ALDS, White Sox vs Red Sox (HUGE WHITE SOX FAN)
  • Attended all 4 rounds of 2003 US Open at Olympia Fields, final 2 rounds of 2005 US Open at Pinehurst, and 2008 at Torrey Pines.
  • Played high school basketball with Julian Wright (Currently with the New Orleans Hornets. Also played against Eddy Curry.(Currently with NY Knicks.)
  • Bartended a party for “Da Coach” Mike Ditka when working at US Cellular Field
  • Recently got to throw out the first pitch at a Southern Illinois Miners game

 

SPORTS FAN:

  • Huge White Sox, Bulls, Blackhawks and Bears fan. Also a fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and Carolina Panthers.
