An SIU student is part of the team of scientists that have recently discovered a new ape species.
SIU Doctoral Student Matthew Nowak was part of the international team who helped discover the Tapanuli Orangutan in Indonesia.
The team says less than 800 of the apes are currently living in the world, making it both the newest and most endangered species of great ape.
