The Illinois Senate passed a bill Wednesday requiring schools to teach LGBT history to students.
The measure requires a unit on the contributions and role of lesbians, gays, bisexual, and transgender people.
It will be up to schools to decide what grade level to introduce the material. The bill now moves to the house for consideration.
