A southern Illinois man has been sentenced on domestic battery charges.
According to prosecutors, in November of 2017, 31-year-old Michael Colson hit a female family member in the back of her head and in the face.
Colson fled the scene but was caught was caught a short time later.
At the time of that incident, Colson was already on probation for domestic battery charges. That incident happened in June of 2016. The victim then, another female, had a romantic relationship with Colson.
Colson also has a prior conviction for Criminal Sexual Assault.
He will spend the next two and half years behind bars.
