Marion, IL (October 15, 2018) – The Southern Illinois Miners announce their game schedule for 2019, with the club kicking off their 13th season of play in the Frontier League this coming May.
For the first time since 2015, the Miners will begin the season on the road, though they will not be too far away, opening their 96-game regular season at Bosse Field against the Evansville Otters on Friday, May 10th. From there, the club will travel north to take on the Lake Erie Crushers from Tuesday, May 14th through Thursday, May 16th before returning home for Opening Night in Marion against the Windy City ThunderBolts on Friday, May 17th.
Other schedule highlights include the weekend following the 4th of July holiday at home against the Gateway Grizzlies from Friday, July 5th through Sunday, July 7th, as well as the defending Frontier League champion Joliet Slammers coming to Marion twice in July (Friday 7/12- Sunday 7/15, Tuesday 7/30- Thursday 8/1). The Miners will also have eight total weekend series at home, and while 12 of the team’s first 15 games will be away from Marion, nine of the club’s final 12 regular season games will be at Rent One Park.
With the Traverse City Beach Bums and Normal CornBelters leaving the Frontier League this offseason, Southern Illinois will play 12 games against each West Division team (two series at home, two away), as well as nine games against all members of the East Division except for Schaumburg, who the Miners will face 12 times (two series at home, two away). They will play a pair of home series against Joliet and Windy City, while traveling to Washington and Lake Erie twice each.
All home game times at Rent One Park will announced at a later date.
