High school principal loses parents in crash

The principal of Vandalia High School lost his parents, a daughter and the daughter’s best friend in a traffic accident Saturday night, following a playoff football game.
State Police say the accident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Illinois Route 185 in Montgomery County.
Killed were 72-year-old Jackolyn Protz, her husband, 73-year-old William Protz, both of Sullivan, as well as two 14-year-old girls from Vandalia.
The four victims were in an SUV that was struck by a teeenager, who crossed the center line onto oncoming traffic.
