Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident in Metropolis.
48-year-old Jackie D. Laird of Metropolis was walking down Butler Street just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a passenger vehicle traveling south.
Laird was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Illinois State Police are trying to locate the operator of the vehicle that struck Laird. If you have information about the vehicle, you are asked to call police.
