Carbondale Police investigate two vehicle thefts

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) — Carbondale Police are investigating a pair of vehicle thefts.
Around 2:25 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the 300 block of South Emerald Street after a Ford F-250 was reported stolen.
Officers soon found the truck and attempted to stop it, but the driver sped off, eventually crashing into a utility pole on West Pecan Street. The driver then ran away.
Police say the driver of a second stolen vehicle, an Oldsmobile Aurora, also sped off when police attempted to stop the Ford pickup. The Oldsmobile was later found abandoned near the intersection of West Chestnut and North Michaels.
Police say in both cases, the keys to the vehicles were available to the suspects.
