Appellate Judge Robert Carter appointed to fill Kilbride vacancy on IL Supreme Court

CHICAGO, Ill. (IRN) — The Illinois Supreme Court chose Appellate Court Judge Robert Carter to fill the vacancy on the state’s high court for Justice Thomas Kilbride, who voters rejected in a retention vote.

The group Citizens for Judicial Fairness said rejecting Kilbride was a good step, but there are questions about Carter’s independence.
Carter said he won’t run for the seat in 2022 when voters will select the next justice.
