MT VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) — An arrest has been made in connection to a deadly Mt. Vernon shooting.
Mt. Vernon Police say it happened at about 1:40 a.m. Sunday at the Corner Tavern on South 19th Street. The male victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. At that time, Jaquez Gardner, 29, was identified by police as a suspect.
Gardner was taken into custody Tuesday on charges of First Degree Murder and Armed Habitual Offender. Police say at the time of the Sunday shooting, Gardner was on parole for a previous shooting conviction.
