ST. LOUIS — Southern Illinois senior Kayla Schiera has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Runner of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Schiera won the inaugural Soybean Invitational, hosted by UT Martin last Friday night. The Sandwich, Ill. native finished first with a three-mile time of 16:55.6 to lead SIU’s women to victory.
Schiera becomes the first female Saluki to earn MVC Runner of the Week honors since Kelley Gallagher in 2014.
The Salukis are back in action on Friday, Sept. 17 when they travel to Bloomington, Ill. for the Redbird Invite.
