Two shot in Carbondale early Sunday morning

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – Two people were injured in a shooting early Sunday in Carbondale.
At about 3:00 a.m., Carbondale Police say officers were monitoring a large crowd in the 200 block of West Main Street when shots were fired and the crowd became unruly.
Officers from the Carbondale Police Department, along with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the SIU Police Department worked to get the situation under control.
Two people were found with non-life threatening gunshot wounds, but due to the crowd, paramedics and an ambulance could not initially get to the scene. Police loaded the most seriously injured person into a squad car and drove them across the street to the hospital. The second victim was later treated by paramedics and then taken to the hospital as well.
Carbondale Police say they have no suspect information to provide and their investigation remains open.
