One person taken to the hospital after Mt. Vernon home invasion

 
MT. VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – A man has been arrested after breaking into a Mt. Vernon home and attacking the people inside.
Mt. Vernon Police say at about 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a home in the 900 block of Salem Road after a report of a woman screaming.
Police say James Litteral, 36, forced open a locked door of the home and attacked two people inside. One person was taken to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.
When officers arrived on the scene, they say Litteral had blood stains on his clothes and then took off running. He was apprehended a few blocks away. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of home invasion, aggravated battery, domestic battery, and resisting arrest.
