Former Miners reliever called up to big leagues

Former Southern Illinois Miners reliever Nick Duron, who was on the team in 2019, was promoted to the major leagues on Tuesday.  He is the 4th former Miners player to reach the big leagues.

Duron joined the Philadelphia Phillies as they headed across the border to Canada for a series with Toronto.  Canada has much more stringent COVID-19 restrictions and the Phillies have several unvaccinated players on their roster – resulting in opportunities for others within the organization.

Duron did not debut Tuesday night but is expected to get a chance sometime before the Phillies head back stateside.

During his tenure with the Miners, Duron sported a 1.35 ERA and 2 saves through 10 games before the Mariners signed him to a contract on June 7, 2019.
