IHSA taking next step to shot clock in high school basketball

The Illinois High School Board of Directors met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday.  The biggest news out of that meeting turned out to be basketball related.
The IHSA Board has approved a recommendation to approve the experimental use of the Shot Clock in both Boys and Girls Basketball for regular-season tournaments and shootouts during the 2022-23 school year.  All tournaments that would like to use the shot clock must apply for approval from the IHSA.

Other points of note from the monthly meeting included:

  • A discussion on Name, Image, and Likeness for IHSA student-athletes.  There is an expectation that the discussion will be continued at future meetings and a possible recommendation could be presented for a by-law addressing NIL allowances.
  • The Board approved a recommendation to discontinue the Three-Point Showdown contest as a part of the IHSA Girls and Boys Basketball State Series.
