First case of monkeypox confirmed in southern Illinois

 
ULLIN, Ill. (WJPF) – The first case of monkeypox has been confirmed in southern Illinois.
The Southern Seven Health Department says they were notified on Wednesday by the Illinois Department of Public health that a resident had tested positive. Contact tracing is now underway.
Public health officials say the threat of monkeypox to the general public remains low. Symptoms can include a rash that looks like pimples or blisters, fever, headaches, muscle aches, chills, and exhaustion.
