ST. LOUIS – Senior Maddy Alaluf has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Goalkeeper of the Week for her performances against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and Southeast Missouri State (SEMO).
“It’s been a completely different season and a completely different type of competition,” Alaluf said. “We have four goalkeepers on this team and every single one of us is amazing. The competition in practice and the level that we are at right now is what is helping me become the best version of myself.”
Alaluf started her week off with a strong performance against SIUE on Thursday night. The senior goalkeeper allowed just one goal and made three saves to preserve the 1-1 draw vs. the Cougars.
Three days later, Alaluf was spotless in-goal for the Salukis in their 1-0 win at SEMO. Alaluf made a season-high 11 saves and allowed zero goals in earning the shutout against the Redhawks. The shutout was the senior’s second of the season.
“I think the number one thing [behind success] is the confidence I have in myself and the confidence I have in my team,” Alaluf said.
This is the first time an SIU goalkeeper has received the honor in program history. It comes a week after the Salukis had their first overall conference honors, with Liz Brechtel and Paris Walsh being recognized as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively.
On the season, Alaluf has allowed just five goals and has made 26 saves. The senior also has a 1.00 GAA and a .839 SV%, both being career-high marks.
The Salukis begin conference play this weekend against Drake on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Lew Hartzog Track and Field Complex.
