Coach Nick Hill told media on Monday that one of his top wide outs remains on the injury report heading in to Week 5 of the season. Izaiah Hartrup, who began the season as the presumed #2 option for quarterback Nic Baker, has been dealing with a hamstring injury since the first day of training camp.
“Obviously we keep saying week-by-week but I don’t see him playing in the next couple weeks,” Hill said. “He’s getting better… He had a pretty significant hamstring injury that’s not easy to come back from.
“We’re just going to listen to the medical guys and really listen to Izaiah… [You] can’t really rush him back because you can do damage if you bring him back too early.”
Hartrup, a sophomore, has been a member of the Salukis since 2020. In the COVID season, he played in all 10 games catching 7 passes for 111 yards. He broke out in the 2021 season playing in all 13 games and starting in 11 of them. He caught 43 passes for 502 yards and 3 touchdowns; he also returned 9 kicks for 200 total yards on the season.
“We want what’s best for him and his future. I do think you’ll see him out there this year,” Hill remarked.
