Mt. Vernon forfeits pair of games due to ineligible player

The Mt. Vernon Rams have been forced to forfeit a pair of their games due to an ineligible player participating in games on September 9th against Triad and September 16th against Belleville Althoff.
“At no time did any member of the MVTHS football coaching staff have any knowledge of the eligibility of this player,” according to a press release sent out by Mt. Vernon Township High School.
The IHSA found in a review that the school district failed to complete proper documentation to verify transfer eligibility of that student-athlete.
The Rams’ record goes from 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the South Seven to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the South Seven.  In order to punch their ticket to the postseason, the Rams will have to either win out and claim the South Seven Conference or win at least two of their final three games and get in on Playoff Points.
The Rams head to Cahokia this Friday before games against Centralia and Mt. Carmel to close out the season in the coming weeks.
