Avian flu suspected in over 300 wild bird deaths

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WJPF) – Over 300 water birds, mainly snow geese, were recently found dead at several state-owned hunting grounds in southern Illinois. Avian flu is the suspected cause.
The birds were found in recent days at Baldwin Lake, Pyramid State Recreation Area, Rend Lake, and Carlyle Lake.
The bird flu was first detected in Illinois in March. Member of the public who find 20 or more dead birds in one location should notify IDNR via the website: wildlifeillinois.org.
