The IHSA made a bit of a shocking decision yesterday. The Board of Directors approved a State Final hosting contract with Illinois State University to host the IHSA Football State Finals at ISU’s Hancock Stadium starting next season until 2027.
The home of the Redbirds was the inaugural Football State Finals site in 1974 and hosted over 100 Football Championship games from ’74 to 1998.
Northern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University both submitted bids to host the State Finals during the same time frame. The University of Illinois submitted bids to host in 2024, 2026, and 2028.
