CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois fullback Jacob Garrett was named to the 2022 Academic All-America second-team on Tuesday by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). He becomes the 14th player in program history to earn the organization’s prestigious Academic All-America team status and the first since center Jacob Marnin in 2019.
Garrett has a 3.99 GPA as a graduate student pursuing an MBA. As a team captain this season, he started all 11 games and ranked fourth on the team in catches (32) and second in TD catches (6). In the historic win at Northwestern, he caught five passes for 78 yards, including two TDs. Garrett caught at least one pass in every game.
Among all sports, Garrett is the 102nd Academic All-American in SIU history — the most of any school in the Missouri Valley Conference.
