Both Murphysboro’s Gary Carter and Carmi-White County’s Kurt Simon received the distinct honor of being named Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame members on Monday.
The two are among seven active coaches going in to the Hall of Fame and a class that has 19 total members.
Simon recently recorded his 150th career win as a head coach this past season. He’s been the Bulldogs coach since 1997 and has gone 152-103 in his time there.
Carter has been at Murphysboro since 2011 and amassed a 72-48 record with the school. The Red Devils head coach got his start at East Alton-Wood River in 1993 and has a career record of 131-112.
All of the inductees will be honored at a luncheon at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Noon. University of Illinois head football coach Bret Bielema will be the luncheon speaker. Price per luncheon ticket is $40 and may be obtained by going to the ihsafca.com website.
