Saluki Baseball picked for two ESPNU telecasts during regular season

ST. LOUIS – Southern Illinois baseball will play in front of a national audience at least twice during the 2023 regular season, ESPN and the Missouri Valley Conference announced Wednesday.
The Salukis will play host to Evansville in in mid-April with their first appearance on the platform coming during the Sunday finale on April 16. The telecast will showcase defending 2022 regular-season champion Southern Illinois and an Evansville team that finished second in the title race a season ago. SIU won 44 games last season and secured the program’s first Valley regular-season title since 1990.
ESPNU will then pickup the series finale between Southern and Indiana State on April 23 in Terre Haute. Indiana State was picked to finish fourth in the MVC Preseason Poll while SIU was named the preseason favorite.
For the 27th time in 41 seasons, multiple MVC baseball teams were selected as part of the field of 64 teams to play for the 2022 College World Series title. The 2022 season was the seventh time in the last eight seasons the MVC placed multiple teams into the NCAA field, including the fourth-straight year The Valley has finished the season as a Top 10 league nationally in RPI.
UP NEXT
The Salukis open the 2023 season on February 17 in South Carolina with a three-game weekend series against Wofford as well as a lone game against Towson.
