St. Louis Blues focus on center position in first round of NHL Draft

The St. Louis Blues had three first round draft picks in this year’s NHL Draft, which began Wednesday night.  The Blues picked at #10, #25, and #29 last night.

With the 10th overall pick, the Blues took Slovakian center Dalibor Dvorsky.  The 18-year-old was third among under-19 players in Allsvenskan, Sweden’s second division, with 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 38 games, and also had 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) in 10 games Sweden’s junior league. Dvorsky had 13 points (eight goals, five assists) in seven games for Slovakia at the 2023 IIHF World Under-18 Championship and three points (one goal, two assists) in five games for his country at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship.

With the 25th overall pick, the Blues went back to the well and picked another center, this time from Sweden with Otto Stenberg.  The 18-year-old had 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 29 games in Sweden’s junior league and made his Swedish Hockey league debut with three points (one goal, two assists) in 23 games with Frolunda.

To finish the night out, the Blues used the 29th overall pick to draft Sweish defenseman Theo Lindstein.  The 18-year-old had five points (one goal, four assists) to help Sweden win the silver medal at the 2023 IIHF World Under-18 Championship.

The remainder of the draft will be completed on Thursday, starting at 10 a.m.
