FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – Illinois State Police say alcohol was a factor in a Scott’s Law crash in Franklin County.

The non-fatal accident happened around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, on Interstate 57, just south of Benton.

Illinois State Police say the squad car was sitting in the median, with it’s emergency lights on, when it was sideswiped by a passing SUV.  The trooper was inside of the squad car at the time, but was not hurt.

The driver of the SUV, Terrance Vance, 41, of West Centralia was not hurt in the crash, but was cited for a Scott’s Law violation, driving under the influence, and illegal transportation of alcohol.

So far this year, 11 state police squad cars have been involved in Scott’s Law crashes, injuring eight troopers.
