One arrested after high speed chase

Malik Felton

JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. (WJPF) – A man is facing a long list of charges after a high speed police chase.

Just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Williamson County Sheriff’s Deputies say they picked up the pursuit, initiated by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, on Interstate 57, near Johnston City.  The pursuit left the interstate and started southbound on Route 37 where police say the driver, Malik Felton, forced officers off the road when he attempted to ram a squad car head on at speeds nearing 90 miles per hour. The vehicle chase ended in Johnston City, on Adams Street, where Felton jumped out of the vehicle. He was caught running a short time later.

Malik Felton faces charges including reckless driving, aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding, and driving on a suspended license. He was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

It’s not the first time Malik Felton has had a run in with the law. Felton was one of four people charged with murder in the 2019 death of a Herrin man, Jeff Ennis.  Felton was found not guilty.
