Murphysboro Red Devils football coach Gary Carter reached a huge milestone Saturday with a 25-20 win over Harrisburg in the IHSA 4A Quarterfinals.  The Red Devils coach recorded his 150th career win.

Carter, who has been the head coach of the Red Devils since 2011, began his head coaching career at East Alton-Wood River from 1994 to 2006.  During his time as the Oilers head coach, Carter accumulated a record of 67-92.

Carter was then hired by Murphysboro to lead their program in May of 2011.  After a slow start in the first three seasons with a 12-15 record, Carter’s program blasted off.  Since the 2014 season, the Red Devils have only posted two losing seasons; in 2016 the Red Devils finished the year 4-5 after a 41-21 loss to Du Quoin in Week 9.

Since arriving at Murphysboro, Carter has posted a record of 83-49.  His career total now sits at 150-141.  He has led the Red Devils to a second place finish in the 4A State Title Game in 2019, as well as three quarterfinals and two semifinals.
