Suspect Wanted for Shooting an IL Police Officer has been Killed after a Police Chase Last Night

The shooting suspect of an IL police officer has been killed after a police chase.

Police had been looking for 39 year old Donald Friese, who was wanted for shooting a Granite City Police officer Tuesday night. A warrant was issued with Friese facing two counts of attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

The chase happened around 8:30pm Wednesday, February 7, when police found Friese on IL Route 146 at Virginia Street in East Cape Girardeau.

Friese tried to maneuver his vehicle through a field, but became stuck. He then barricaded himself inside and fired shots at police.

Friese was killed when multiple police officers returned fire.

No officers were injured, and the incident is under investigation.
