Herrin Athletics named Jessica Whitehead their new head volleyball coach on Tuesday.
Whitehead has been a fixture in the Southern Illinois Volleyball scene for well over a decade.
Whitehead has been an assistant coach at both John A. Logan College and Southern Illinois College.
Whitehead was inducted into the Murphysboro Athletic Hall of Fame earlier this year for her efforts during her high school career at Murphysboro High School. During her playing days, Whitehead led the Red Devils to a 114-32 record with four regional championships and the only sectional title in school history under the guidance of coaching legend Mike Layne.
Whitehead was a two-time recipient of The Southern Illinoisan Player of the Year honor and two-time All-State honoree. She continued her playing days at SIU where she collected 1,401 career kills (4th most in SIU history) and her 923 attempts per set rank second in school history.
