SIU Chancellor Lane not selected for New Mexico job

Austin Lane

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – SIU Chancellor Austin Lane will not be leaving Carbondale for the Land of Enchantment like many had thought.

Lane, who has led SIU since July 2020, was thought to be the frontrunner to be the next president of New Mexico State University. But on Monday, New Mexico State University’s Board of Regents decided that none of the five finalist, including Lane, were right for the job and will start their search all over again.

Austin Lane is paid over $360,000 annually by SIU and now has the  highest salary on the Carbondale campus after the recent firing of men’s basketball coach Bryan Mullins. Mullins was paid over $504,000 dollars per year.
