Man walks into Carbondale business, threatens customers with knife

CARBONDALE, Ill. (WJPF) – A man is facing weapon and drug charges after police say he walked into a Carbondale business and threatened the customers inside with a large knife.

It happened around 11:20 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of East Main Street.

Carbondale Police say Shiron Smith, 46, was located a short time later walking in the 100 block of South Graham Street. After a short foot chase and brief struggle Smith was taken into custody, still armed with the knife. Police also say they found him in possession of narcotics.

Shiron Smith was arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon, disorderly conduct, and possession of a controlled substance. He was issued citations and then released from jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 16.
