Samuel Neuman awarded NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois senior offensive lineman Samuel Neuman was awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee.

A native of Winnie, Texas, Neuman said he will use the scholarship to pursue a master’s degree in animal science at West Texas A&M. He earned his undergraduate degree in animal science production from SIU with a 3.872 GPA.

Neuman played in 10 games last season for the Salukis, primarily on special teams, and made one start at left guard in the game versus Indiana State. Southern finished 8-5 and won a playoff game for the third time in the last four seasons.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education by rewarding the Association’s most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship sports. Athletics and academic achievements, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities and demonstrated leadership are evaluated.

The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
