Benton great Doug Collins was named to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 over the weekend.

Collins coached the Chicago Bulls from 1986-1989, just before Michael Jordan and the Bulls began putting together what is viewed as one of the greatest runs in sports history.

The 73-year-old Collins will be enshrined in Springfield, Massachusetts during the weekend of August 16th and 17th.

Collins was the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft in 1973 when he was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers.  He was a four-time All-Star between 1976 and 1979.

Collins played four seasons at Illinois State.  Before that, he was a star at Benton Consolidated High School and played for Rich Herrin.

Aside from coaching the Chicago Bulls, Collins also coached the Detroit Pistons (’95-’98), Washington Wizards (’01-’03), and Philadelphia 76ers (’10-’13).
