Harlan was the GRAC and Region 24 Freshman of the Year this past season at Logan. In 240 plate appearances across 56 games, Harlan slashed .391/.523/.615 for the Vols with nine home runs and 13 doubles. He had 43 RBIs and swiped 26 stolen bases. He scored 75 runs himself.
His success continued in to the summer when he joined the Thrillville Thrillbillies in Marion, part of the Prospect League.
In 21 games, Harlan slashed .319/.500/.514 with eight doubles and two home runs. He had 17 stolen bases, 11 runs batted in, and scored 31 runs.
Thrillville skipper and Logan assistant Patrick Morey was very proud of the shortstop heading to the next level:
“Cruz is a high level ball player and an even better person. He was a key cog and a leader for both John A. Logan and the Thrillbillies,” Morey said. “Proud of what Cruz has done so far in his athletic career and know he’s in store for so much more in baseball and his future endeavors.”
John A. Logan College baseball coach Kyle Suprenant echoed similar sentiments:
“[Harlan] deserves the offer that he got, he had a heck of a year… Obviously it’s a little bittersweet, we’d love to pencil his name in to the lineup every day in the leadoff hole and playing shortstop for us but at the end of the day our job is to help these guys to the next level… We’re certainly happy for him, certainly excited for him, and looking forward to his career unfold.”
