Meth, weapon found during Jefferson County traffic stop

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WJPF) – A Jefferson County man is facing charges after police found methamphetamine in his vehicle during a traffic stop.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Lerone McWilliams was pulled over Sunday morning near the intersection of Fairfield Road and Cooper Street in Mt. Vernon. A police K-9 sniffed out the methamphetamine and officers found a “slap jack” style weapon in the vehicle.

Lerone McWilliams was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of unlawful possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of weapons.
