The president of the American Federation of Teachers Local 817 is firing back after CUSD District 168 filed an Unfair Labor Practice complaint against the union.
Union President Tim Aldridge called the charges “false” and said they are meant to distract parents and the community from what he described as the school board’s refusal to reach a fair contract after months of bargaining.
Aldridge said the district has demanded harmful cuts that would hurt students and drive teachers away, while the union’s proposals would save money, keep class sizes smaller, and help retain educators.
He added that instead of filing counter-charges, the district should work with teachers in good faith to avoid a strike and reach an agreement that puts students first.
