IL Association of School Boards votes against arming teachers

CHICAGO, IL. – (WJPF) – The Illinois Association of School Boards has voted against supporting legislation to allow local school boards in the state to decide if they want their staff to be trained to carry firearms.
The resolution was supported primarily by rural school districts concerned about emergency response time and the lack of available funds to hire a school resource officer.
The final vote was 179 – 203.
