Multiple Victories in a Single Day for Marion Wildcats

Tuesday night proved to be a big night for Marion High School sports fans.
First, at the West Frankfort Mid-Winter Classic, the Wildcats defeated Cairo 51-46.  In the win, senior Wildcat Jackson Connor continued his historic career by passing James Orr on the all-time scorers’ leaderboard.  Orr finished his career with 1,626 points.  Connor scored 24 points to move to 1,640 points in his career.
Connor now only stands second to Marion graduate and current John A Logan Athletic Director Greg Starrick, who scored 1,975 points from 1964-1967.
“Jackson is guaranteed at least 13 more games,” says Marion Athletic Director Ryan Goodisky. “[He] needs to have around 25 to 26 [points per game] to have a chance [to surpass Starrick].  We think he is fully capable.  It will be interesting!”
Then at the Unit 2 Board Meeting the return of Football Coach Kerry Martin was announced.  Martin intended for 2019 to be his final season but after a 55-28 loss in the first round of the IHSA playoffs, he wanted to make a return.
The Wildcats had other pieces of news throughout the day, the wrestling team dominated Herrin 63-18 and the Bass Fishing team had a new coach announced in Dewayne Fowler.
