Senior Hot Shot: Grace Lueke

Grace Lueke of Hamilton County High School is a three-sport athlete who has accomplished a lot for the Foxes in her four years.  She was named All-South and All-Conference in Volleyball, as well as Honorable Mention All-State.  In Basketball, she scored over 1000 points during her career and was named All-South, All-Conference, and IBCA All-State.
She was primed to keep her accomplished Senior year blazing in Softball, where she has played several positions for the Foxes but is best at catcher and third base.
“She is the leader of all the sports she participates in not only verbally but the way she carriers herself on and off the court,” says Hamilton County Athletic Director Clint Winemiller.  “She will be missed on the courts and fields as well as in the locker room. She has great work habits, good attitude and a good student.”

From Grace herself!
Q: What moment in your high school athletic career sticks out to you most?
A: One major event in my athletic career that sticks out to me is when we won regional’s my Junior year. We beat Vienna at Vienna and it was an awesome game! Everything clicked for everyone! We played well together and things just went so smoothly. It was awesome to beat the Lady Eagles on their home floor. The best part of that night was the awesome student section we had to cheer us on. It was amazing to see all the support we had from our friends in the student body and the whole town. It is during times like that I really love my small little town that becomes one big family!

Q: How have you and your teammates tried to keep in contact despite the Coronavirus?
A: I talk to many of my teammates every day and ask how they are doing. But we also have a group chat with the whole team and Coach Drone that we communicate through and ask how everyone is doing. We stay in constant communication.
Q: How has the Coronavirus affected your views on sports?
A: The Coronavirus has made me realize that sports really are my ENTIRE LIFE. I know that I have played a lot of sports in my life and practice for them regularly, but I did not know how much time I invested in them until I could not practice with my team or coaches.  Sports are much more than just a game to me and the Coronavirus has made me realize that more than ever. Friendships, life lessons, challenges all come from the life of sports.  And I really miss that part of life right now.
Q: Once the pandemic is over with and life gets back to normal, what are you most looking forward to?
A: I am looking forward to being able to see all my friends and hug them. Actually I am just excited to see anyone other than my family when this is over. LOL Although I do love my family.  I am so looking forward to playing softball again because I really am missing being on the dirt.
Q: What goals do you have for yourself post-graduation, sports-related or life-related?
A: I will attend SIUE in the Fall of 2020 and I have signed to play softball. I am majoring in Exercise Science and plan to become a Physical Therapist.
