After the first week of play, a pair of previously unranked teams made the jump in to the Top 10 of this week’s John A. Logan College Little Egypt Football Coaches’ Poll. Mt. Vernon made the biggest leap out of anybody, going from unranked hopeful to #7 in the region after a huge 40-0 shutout victory over Taylorville to ring in the second Dan Mings era last Friday night.
Sesser-Valier was also previously unranked and jumped in to a tie for #9 with Carbondale, who tumbled four spots from #5 after a 41-20 loss to #4 Murphysboro.
Du Quoin also leapfrogged multiple teams, gaining three positions from #9 to #6 after a 26-0 win over Chester.
