WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WJPF) – If you get a text message, email, or phone call claiming you have an unpaid traffic ticket… ignore it. Police say it’s a scam.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve had multiple reports of the scam over the last few days. They say the scammer tries to create a sense of urgency requiring an immediate payment in order to avoid a fine or going to jail.
No police department will ever demand money over the phone or through email or text.
