Longtime SIU SID Tom Weber leaves post to start new multimedia outlet StrongDawgs

Longtime SIU Sports Information Director and Senior Associate AD Tom Weber announced he is leaving the school’s athletic department this week and starting a new multimedia outlet called StrongDawgs on Monday.

StrongDawgs.com and its social media channels will provide year-round, 24/7 coverage of Saluki Football and encourage financial support for Name, Image, and Likeness.

Below is the statement from Weber:

“Some news to share!  After 24 years working in Salukis Athletics, I’m leaving this week to start a new multimedia outlet called StrongDawgs.  StrongDawgs.com and its social channels will provide year-round, 24/7 coverage of Saluki Football and encourage financial support for Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL).

Why Saluki Football?  First of all, I have enormous respect for Nick Hill.  Some programs talk about family, but Saluki Football lives it.  These are good people who I’m honored to work with.  Some of my most cherished personal and professional moments are connected to the program, as both my sons have traveled with me on many road trips to help cover the team.

As I exit Athletics, my thank-you list starts with Paul Kowalczyk, for turning the Saluki ship around.  Thanks for bringing me on board in 2001.  Many of the coaches and staff are dear friends – people like Chris Lowery, Brad Korn, Mike Reis, Rodney Watson, Tommy Bell, Bryan & Brendan Mullins, Bryce Williams, Ed Thompson, Bruce Weber, Matt Painter, Ed Allen, the late Don Knapp, and of course, all the good people in Saluki Football, too many to list.  I’ve been blessed to work with so many outstanding young people in the Communications office.  Guys like Jeff Honza, John Lock, Michael Black, Tyler Wooten, Tim McCaughan, Dominic Hoscher, Noah Zarn were more than co-workers, they became close friends.  I’d also like to thank all the current and former student-athletes.  Our coaches consistently recruit outstanding people.

I’m grateful for the career I’ve had at SIU, for our incredible fans and for the opportunity to tell the story of our amazing coaches and athletes.  I can’t wait to get StrongDawgs started and deliver to our fans a product that connects them to Saluki football in a personal way.  This program is truly worthy of your support.

With Saluki pride,

Tom Weber”
