The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association announced their Class of 2022 on Monday morning. Headlining the group for Southern Illinois were Coaches Wendell Wheeler and Jon Brown
Wheeler is the current coach of the Cobden Appleknockers and has been at the helm since 2018. He also coached at Du Quoin, Newton, and Patoka.
Brown is the head coach of the Crab Orchard Trojans and has served in that role for the past 26 years.
Former Saluki Matt Shaw was also recognized by the IBCA for his time as a player at Centralia (Class of ’04)
Other inductees include Jim Corrona (Career Coaches), the former coach of Salem and Wayne City, Bruce Baker (Player) of Benton (Class of ’84), Matt Hampleman (Friends of Basketball) of West Frankfort, and Darren Kinnard (Media) of Carbondale.
